The JET Foundation Inc. recognizes
Middle College High School’s Students
LOS
ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Encouraging
students to excel academically, the J. Eldridge Taylor (JET)
Foundation has made available the Pay for A’s Incentive
Plan for Middle College High School on the campus of Southwest
Community College. Pay for A’s Incentive Plan is both
a tool and resource that aids students to set goals in their
academic careers.
On June 19, 2007 over 100 students were recognized
for their academic excellence. The JET Foundation awarded $1,600
to qualified candidates at Middle College High School. Pay for
A’s Incentive Plan pays students up to $10 per A, on their
report card, in all core curriculum classes such as language
arts, math, history and science. “Some kids received up
to $45,” says Bruce Murray, a counselor at Middle College
High School. Furthermore, the program acknowledges grade improvement
and report cards with no letter grades of C, D or F with gift
cards from establishments such as Cold Stones, McDonalds and
Starbucks.
The
JET foundation and the administrators at Middle College High
School are working together to inspire students to excel to
their highest potential. Pay for A’s incentive plan was
described as “phenomenal” by Murray. “The
JET Foundation is helping us to give more rewards to the kids.
They will think twice about ditching and not doing homework.
It’s a very big motivator. We appreciate the work that
the JET Foundation is doing. It was a positive experience and
provided positive reinforcement for the kids.”
J.
Eldridge Taylor Jr. believes that education is the key to success
and wants to encourage youth to secure their future by achieving
the highest academic standards. “The JET Foundation was
created to encourage, educate, and reward Students who strive
to be the best that they can be.” says Taylor. “My
wife Natali and I wanted to Mold Minds, Strengthen Families,
and Build Communities.”
For
the upcoming school year, The Taylor’s are taking the
program to View Park Preparatory High School in Los Angeles
and L. A. County Sheriffs Leadership Academy in Lynwood, CA.
